![]() ![]() At the height of that event, New York State was near completely covered with ice to it's Southern border with Pennsylvania (Vermont was completely covered, and Long Island was formed by the glacier bulldozing Connecticut rock and soil southward), in places the ice sheet was in excess of a mile deep. The ice sheet and it's subsequent melt off had gouged out big U shaped valleys throughout New York State and the Northeast, including the one we live in, the Wharton Valley. Our valley resides nearly in the center of New York State, 35 miles South of Utica and 60 miles North of Binghamton, nearly in the center of James Fenimore Cooper's "Leather Stocking Country". The communitys that are the backbone of the valley are Exeter to the North, Burlington Flats, West Burlington, Edmeston, and New Berlin in the South. This web site will be devoted to what's going on in our valley, and it's sister valleys, the Butternut Valley on the east, and the Unadilla Valley on the west. My intent is to post photos from our valley, kids playing ball, and other events good or otherwise. I hope you enjoy it. ![]() |
